O Our Commitment to a Better Future

What Sustainability Means to Us

For us, sustainability is not a trend – it’s a way of life. Guided by mindfulness and common sense, we take many small but consistent steps to align environmental responsibility, social equity, and economic awareness.

We cherish our historic house and the majestic Dolomites that surround it. For over 120 years, Villa Kastelruth has been part of Castelrotto’s story – and that comes with a sense of responsibility. Together with our staff and guests, we aim to create a respectful, forward-thinking approach to hospitality. Here are just a few of the many steps we’re taking:

CULINARY PLEASURES WITH PURPOSE

South Tyrolean Flavor – From Orchard to Table

How we embrace this diversity with respect:

  • A strong focus on fresh, seasonal ingredients
  • Regional products are our first choice (e.g. farmhouse butter, orchard apple juice, organic South Tyrolean milk)
  • Morning menu selections help us reduce food waste
  • Every table is served fresh spring water – free & unbottled

NATURE-INSPIRED EXPERIENCES

Reconnect with the Dolomites – Consciously and Calmly

  • All activities take place in the surrounding area – less traffic, more authenticity
  • Guided hikes, ski guiding and snowshoeing are led away from the usual hotspots
  • No packed lunches – we prefer to support local huts and alpine taverns along the way

    MINDFUL USE OF RESOURCES

    Sustainability Starts with Everyday Habits

We kindly ask guests to bring their own slippers

    • Towels and linens changed only upon request
    • Pool and sauna towels provided in-room and replaced when needed
    • Eco-certified cleaning products and recycled paper used whenever possible
    • Furniture and equipment are donated or repurposed when replaced

    ENERGY – CLEAN, EFFICIENT, LOCAL

We source electricity from 100% South Tyrolean hydropower. Heating runs on methane, but we work to reduce overall consumption.

    How we save energy:

    • LED lighting throughout the property
    • KNX system for energy-efficient lighting and device use
    • Latest-generation energy-saving kitchen appliances
    • Individual heating controls in each room
    • Transparent pool cover that naturally retains solar heat

MOBILITY – STAY WITHOUT A CAR

Getting around without your car? No problem.

    • All guests receive the Alto Adige Guest Pass for unlimited use of public buses and trains
    • As a partner hotel, we contribute financially to improving local public transport
    • On request, we arrange luggage and shuttle services from nearby train stations
    • Winter guests enjoy a free morning shuttle to the Seiser Alm cable car

PEOPLE FIRST – OUR TEAM IS OUR HEART

Many of our team members live on-site and are part of the Villa Kastelruth family. They create lasting guest experiences with their dedication and care.

    Our values:

    • Fair wages & set working hours
    • Personal development through language and professional training
    • Inclusion in decisions via team meetings
    • Free access to guided hikes, ski tours & gym for all staff

STRONG PARTNERS – SHORT SUPPLY CHAINS

We believe in regional quality – not only in food, but also in craftsmanship and services.

Here’s how we support the local economy:

    • Longstanding partnerships with South Tyrolean artisans
    • Interior furnishings made of regional wood, locally sourced and produced
    • Local experts handle services like bike/ski rentals, guides & ski schools

    ROOTED IN THE COMMUNITY

Villa Kastelruth is part of a vibrant village – both as a family and as a business.

    We actively support:

    • Local clubs and cultural events (e.g. fire brigade, music band, skating rink)
    • Social projects focused on inclusion and youth training
